and just a little bit bonkers

Joyous, knowledgeable, motivational

Emma Parkes-McQueen at your service

I didn’t find yoga, yoga found me and after many years it still keeps me coming back for more. I have been practicing for over twenty eight years and teaching for almost eight in Berkhamsted Hertfordshire. Predominantly I teach a strong physical practise (asana), and I use the yoga philosophy that's relevant for our present day living in the West.

The classes I teach are about you and your needs. Transforming your habits of movement, your idea of self worth and finding contentedness in your life. The yoga I teach takes the traditional style and mixes it up with a lot of wit, a smidgen of Northern charm and a dash of Rock n' Roll. I'm serious about yoga but don't take it all too seriously.

Wherever you are in your life and whatever you are going through, yoga has a way of helping you work through it. Be it a tight hamstring or a broken heart. It has the power to open you up when things are  pressurised, to energise your day, or allow you to soften and relax.

My classes are for every body, every shape and every age. You don’t need to be flexible to start, in fact if you’re not flexible at all, then you will benefit the most. To find yoga is a step to finding your own inner strength, happiness and health. â€‹

I can’t wait to see you in my class.  So bring yourself just as you are. Yoga is a gift that was handed to me and now I am ready to hand it to you, with a great big ribbon and tag saying “Love from Yoga”.

Every body. Every shape. Every age.

Styling it out  and finding the joy.

My style is often an active dynamic flow, sometimes faster, sometimes slower. A unique fusion of different movement styles, including Hatha, Ashtanga, Yin, Breath work and Animal FlowTM. There is often a focus on strength, mobility, flexibility and fascial release so expect to move your body and feel good doing so.

I also teach a slow more serene style, and I make modifications for all abilities in all classes. Above all, my teaching is about joy, so just show up, smile, have fun and don’t take it all too seriously.

Testimonials

“When we forget to move, to dance, to sing —

we forget who we are.”

Movement isn’t about achievement; it’s how we come home to ourselves. Whether it’s a yoga pose, a tai chi flow, or that unplanned dance in the kitchen — it’s all a way of waking the body, clearing the mind, and brightening the edges of the soul.

So go on — stretch, sway, move however you need to.
Life’s rhythm is still in you.
You’ve just got to let it out.

Motion is lotion

Authentic, lovely, thoughtful
